"I’m not the most academic individual and I was close to failing my GCSEs, so graduating with a distinction was a very proud moment for me."
At 13 years old, Hassan Iqbal launched his first venture in computer repair and web industry. He went on to study with the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy at Oldham College, where he excelled. Hassan now attends Manchester Metropolitan University at the same time as running CreativePixels, a creative media agency that specialises in helping SMEs develop and grow digitally. He is the third Academy student to have won the Edge Challenge and was a finalist for Young Digital Entrepreneur 2015.
Hassan says: “Studying at the Academy was a genuinely life-changing experience that helped to build my confidence and prepare me for the business world. It taught me how to overcome challenges and gave me several opportunities to secure funding, win awards, gain publicity and, most importantly, make connections. Over the two years that I spent at Oldham College, I saw myself mature from a ‘kid out of high school’ to a genuine young entrepreneur. I’m not the most academic individual and I was close to failing my GCSEs, so graduating with a top distinction was a very proud moment for me.
“The first business I developed whilst studying at the Academy was called Haz-Server, but with the help of some excellent mentors, I realised that the market for web hosting wasn’t great. With a little direction, I saw what the market was missing: an ethical creative agency that had the clients’ growth in mind from the outset. That’s when I started CreativePixels.
“CreativePixels is a creative media agency that specialises in working with small-to-medium-sized businesses to deliver world-class results without breaking the bank. At the moment, we offer web design and development, print and brand identity and animations, but we have plans to introduce application development, SEO management and social media management by the end of 2016. So far, we’ve been lucky enough to work with clients such as the University of Greenwich, the British College of Business and Unltd, which is one of the UK’s largest social enterprises.
“I’ve worked so hard developing the company and I’m very excited about the future.”
