"It was such a surreal experience. We were pitching our products and negotiating, when normally we would have had private study in the library."
The winner of Tycoon in Schools 2013, Funnelling 4 Fuel from Avonbourne College, dazzled the judges with their brilliant eco-friendly funnel which captures waste cooking oil, allowing it to be processed and recycled into bio-fuel.
James Runnacles, Funnelling 4 Fuel team member, said: “Entering the Tycoon in Schools competition was a fantastic experience. Not only were we given the chance to start up a business from scratch whilst still at school, we were generating a real profit from it.
“We have learnt an enormous amount from the experience, which we hope will stand us in good stead for our future ventures.”
Since winning Tycoon in Schools 2013, the team has continued with their success, adding to their eco-friendly product range and generating interest from a large supermarket chain.
Kathryn Loughnan, head of sixth form at the college, said: “I am so impressed that this talented group of students has managed to push on from their Tycoon in Schools experience so successfully. They have put an awful lot of time, effort and passion into this and they deserve everything they get back.
“All their hard work is really paying off and it would be wonderful to see their products on the shelves in stores all over Dorset.”
